Biography: Zsolt Eder, Violinist

Zsolt Eder, violinist, has appeared throughout North America, Europe and Australia in solo, chamber music and orchestral performances alike. He is a recent graduate from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Prior to CIM, he was a student of Lorand Fenyves at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto, Canada. Zsolt has performed concerti with the CIM Symphony Orchestra, the Via Salzburg Chamber Orchestra in Toronto, the CASE Baroque Orchestra, as well as the Parlando Chamber Orchestra and the Teatro di Musica in Hungary. As a Quartet player, he performed in New York City at the Juilliard School, the Mannes College, at the Banff Summer Music Festival (Canada), at the Cleveland Institute of Music and at Rheinberger Hall in Severance Hall, as first violinist of the Matisse Quartet. His chamber music mentors over the years have been Peter Salaff, the Cavani Quartet, Mark Steinberg, Donald Weilerstein, Roger Tapping, and members of the Miami and Takacs Quartets.

Zsolt has performed as a chamber musician, orchestra member and soloist at the Banff Music Festival (Banff, Canada), the Aspen Music Festival (Aspen, Colorado), the Perlman Music Program (Long Island, Ct.), the Holland Music Sessions (Bergen, Netherlands), the Tafelmusik Baroque Institute (Toronto, Canada), Prussia Cove (England) and the Sunflower Music Festival (Topeka, Kansas). His performances have been broadcast on Hungarian Radio, WCLV, and ABC radio in Australia.

In 2006 he performed as part of the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra in the first Canadian production of Wagner’s complete Ring Cycle, at the inauguration of the Four Seasons Performing Arts Center in Toronto, Canada. In 2007 he was invited to join the first violin section in the Hungarian State Opera’s production of the Ring Cycle. Zsolt is a member of CityMusic Cleveland and performs regularly in the greater Cleveland area. He is also an active participant in City Music’s Educational Outreach Program, working with elementary school kids in Slavic Village. During his last years of study, he also performed regularly as first violinist with the Akron, Canton, Youngstown Symphonies, as well as the Fort Wayne Philharmonic (Indiana) and the Kalamazoo Symphony (Michigan). This past year Zsolt has been a graduate teaching assistant at Kent State University, working with the Miami Quartet. He will move to Kansas City in August, to earn his Doctoral studies at UMKC.
